Bari’s Nicolaiano Museum, which opened on the 6th February 2010, hosts a collection of treasures and reliquaries charting the history of the San Nicola Church. It forms part of the citadel of the same name together with the Centre of Nicolaiani Studies. It is an essential study facility for all those interested in the history of the saint and the city of Bari itself, from ancient times through historical eras such as Byzantine (876-1071), Norman (1071-1194), Swabian (1194-1266), Angevin (1266-1442), Aragon (1442-1501), Viceregal (1551-1734), Bourbon (1734-1861) and post-unification. The masterpieces kept at the museum include inscriptions, scrolls and miniature codes (originally preserved in the precious church archives), glaze ceramics, emblems, relics, chalices and silverware (previously kept at the Treasury), paintings and sacred vestments.
